The Advocacy Committee is dedicated to the Sorority’s mission of supporting underrepresented communities. We have identified this date for the Fall 2020 semester as our first committee initiative. Take action with us on December 1st for Giving Tuesday! We look forward to this program and future programming coming soon.

The Advocacy Committee selected three (3) organizations that support our many advocacy areas through their programming to destigmatize mental health, provide legal support to find missing loved ones, and encourage civic engagement in the Latino/a/x, Hispanic, and Chicano communities. We invite you to donate to the following organizations, if you are able. For more information on each organization, please visit their website, provide in the list below:

  1. Missing & Murdered Women (MMIW) USA: “MMIW USA’s number one mission is to bring our missing home and help the families of the murdered cope and support them through the process of grief. We give them hands-on support and guidance and if we don’t have the answers, we get the answers so that these families do not feel abandoned and alone in this struggle like so many have before them. Our broader goal is to eradicate this problem so that the future generations thrive. We are doing that through education of the threats that they face and self-defense. We just started a monthly program to do just that. It is called Staying Sacred and we educate and have self-defense lessons at every meeting. Our strength lies in the fact that every single
one of the staff and volunteers have been assaulted or trafficked and our passion is to be the kind of organization that we needed growing up and beyond.” https://www.mmiwusa.org/
  2. National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI): “NAMI is the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.” https://www.nami.org/
  3. League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC): “Historically, LULAC has focused heavily on education, civil rights, health, and employment for Hispanics. LULAC councils and LULAC National Educational Service Centers provide approximately a million dollars in scholarships to Hispanic students each year. LULAC Institute programs include citizenship and voter registration drives, education and health events and programs that empower the Hispanic community at the local, state and national level.” https://lulac.org/

Anyone can donate and any donation is appreciated. We encourage you to take part in this campaign if you are able. Donations can be made directly through the organization’s website by visiting one of the websites listed and selecting the amount you feel most comfortable with. You do not need to donate to all three, and no amount is too small. Donations to these organizations are also tax-deductible. We do ask that you report your donation(s) to us using this form so we can track our member mobility and progress:https://my.greekcapitalmanagement.com/submit/664

Our goal is to raise $325 per organization to support their efforts in communities across the nation. The National Executive Board will match donations of up to $200 per organization. Those who donate will be mailed a branded sticker with any donation, if reported to the form listed above. In addition to donations, you can also join the efforts of these organizations and learn more about their work by participating in their events and/or following them on social media.
