Gamma Alpha Omega’s mentorship vision reads:
strengthening the fiber of our community through education.

Gamma Alpha Omega knows the power of women to effect positive change, and has proven it from our volunteer work to foster educational and mentoring programs and support Emeralds for Education. Our chapters support local and national organizations, volunteering many hours and generously fundraising for this cause.

Throughout its history, Gamma Alpha Omega has recognized the importance of serving others. Gamma Alpha Omega’s commitment to mentoring youth began in 2011 with the founding of the Gamma Alpha Omega’s Emeralds for Education, which brought youth mentoring to our local communities through various organizations. We have worked to promote youth mentorship ever since.

WHY Mentor?
Gamma Alpha Omega is committed to mentoring because the organization believes the development of strong educational skills and a lifelong love of learning is the groundwork for success and happiness in life.

The impact of mentoring is apparent:

favicon Youth who meet regularly with their mentors are 46% less likely than their peers to start using illegal drugs and 27% less likely to start drinking. Students are also 52% less likely skip a day of school and 37% less likely to skip class. Without immediate intervention by caring adults, young people could make choices that not only undermine their futures, but also the economic and social well-being of our nation.

favicon Children who have little support and guidance from adults have poor educational, employment and health outlooks, perpetuating the cycles of poverty, crime and dependency.

How mentoring changes lives:

favicon Positive role models experiences, such as Gamma Alpha Omega’s Emeralds for Education program, encourage mentorships. The more positive role models our youth have, the more likely they are to succeed.

favicon Access to mentorship opportunities, through organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, improves interest in making positive choices, increasing the desire to be successful adults who contribute the society.

The Sorority continues to be a vehicle for serving others through youth mentorships. The vision is supported by our philanthropic platform, which includes the following initiatives:
